Episode Overview
How do you know where your business really stands?
In Episode 23 of R Readiness Lens, The Readiness Scorecard, Sheri Radler is joined by Jacob Schroeder of Orca Advisors to take the next step in evaluating your business: putting a measuring stick around readiness.
Throughout this season, Sheri has explored the questions business owners should be asking about profitability, operations, leadership, growth, and the future. In the previous episode, she challenged owners to cross the street and look back at their business through an outsider's eyes. This episode is about taking what you see and giving it context.
Sheri and Jacob discuss why revenue and financial statements only tell part of the story. A $2 million business growing quickly with intentional investments can look very different from a $2 million business with declining margins, weak systems, or heavy owner dependence. A meaningful readiness score needs to consider the whole business, including vision, strategy, people, sales and marketing, systems and processes, risk and governance, and financial performance.
Jacob also walks through Orca Advisors' Readiness Scorecard and assessment process, which helps owners understand where their business stands today, identify its current value, see the gap between current and potential value, and determine where improvements could make the biggest difference.
The goal isn't to achieve a perfect score or maximize the business at the expense of the owner's life. It's to gain clarity about what you've built, understand where there are gaps, and decide which changes make sense for the business and life you want.
